Cattleya Orchid
The Cattleya Orchid: Over 40 Different Beautiful Varieties.
The cattleya orchid is actually named after a genus of the plant. In fact, there are actually about forty different species of these orchids. They are, in many circles, the best known and even most sought of the nearly 25,000 varieties of orchid. They are large, beautiful, and not all that hard to grow which makes cattleya orchids the popular flower that they are.
All of the species of cattleya orchid are actually developed from or indigenous to the jungles of South and Central America. Their strong roots and erect bulbs make them hearty and durable plants that only adds to their beauty and popularity. With several leaves at the base of the cattleya orchid, the species are often divided merely by the number of leaves at the base of the flower.
The cattleya orchid is one of the easiest orchids to care for. You need only to be aware of growth and rest periods that will keep the flowers looking wonderful. When the flowers are initially growing, they should be watered frequently. When they reach their full size, watering can be cut back to induce the flowers to form and bloom. Once they are about to go into bloom, watering can again be increased. Once the orchids are in full bloom, it is once again time to let the flower rest by watering only minimally. It is a lot of timing, but not a lot of work and the flowers you will get are more than worth the time and tracking you put into the process.
These orchids are one of the most popular varieties of orchid. Though they can be divided into a number of species within the genus, the entire genus is hearty, easy to care for, and beautiful. This all adds to their popularity among orchid growers and general flower lovers alike.
