How To Import Wholesale Orchids

Orchids primarily grow under tropical climates.  It is then a given that the most beautiful orchids are those that grow in tropical countries, their natural environment.  Sure, you can try to grow some healthy plants and vibrantly colored flowers, but once you see the orchids in tropical places, you'd know what I mean when I say "orchids grow best in their home countries."

This is the reason why importing orchids - and importing wholesale orchids - have become a popular resort for many orchid lovers in Western areas.  Orchids from the Far East and South America have become legendarily famous for their exquisite beauty, one which is quite difficult to replicate in colder Western environments.

But the importation of orchids, more so wholesale orchids, is not an easy process.  There are several procedural requirements that should be considered.  Let's take a look at them.

* Naturally, you'd have to consider the selling price of the orchids as well as the costs it will take to ship them.

* The seller abroad must also secure a Phytosanitary permit to guarantee that the wholesale orchids they will send in do not carry harmful pests or diseases that may start a contagion to the flora and fauna of the receiving country.  This Phytosanitary permit is often granted by the appropriate department in their respective countries.  Such a Phytosanitary permit will be asked for at ports of entry, and the failure to present one can lead to the rejection of their entry to the country.

* Some orchids are considered as endangered species, owing to the massive depletion of their numbers in the wilds.  Because of this, Western countries also require a Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) certificate before wholesale orchids are allowed entry to their respective territories.

* Tariff and taxes should also be considered.  These vary per country and per state.

Orchids can be imported either per stem, per seeds in flask, or per plant.  The bigger the package, however, the higher the transportation costs.  Seeds in flasks are the most practical, but there is no guarantee on how the said seeds will grow under Western environmental conditions.

Importation of orchids should be reserved for veteran connoisseurs of this plant.  Novices will have a difficult time in helping the plants adjust to their new surroundings.  Nonetheless, importation remains a viable option for those who want to enrich their orchid growing experience.
